What is Transcreation?

Transcreation is a combination of the words ‘translation’ and ‘creation’. It’s the process of adapting an ad or a piece of marketing copy to make it work in another language.

The Macmillan Dictionary defines transcreation as:

a distinct translation process that is mainly used to describe the adaptation of advertising and marketing copy”.

 Some marketing materials such as advertisements are so country-specific that they simply wouldn’t work if you translated them into English. So we translate and adapt them using a process called transcreation.

Transcreation goes much further than translation. It ensures that your core message is retained but it adapts the advert to meet the needs of the target country.
